RE: Silly ? about leaving TT hitched

Well, I have a chevy silverado. Is that like a GM? So, just for the "just in case" factor, I should unplug it? Ellie

RE: Silly ? about leaving TT hitched

You guys are too kind. I was really worried on this one that someone would say, "duh" but as usual, only the best folks on this forum. Thanks a lot... now I know it will be ok to either use the stabilizers or not and I think I will put the tongue jack down just as you've said, to stop the wiggle and give it an extra anchor. I suppose if I do that, it will indeed lessen the strain on the equalizer bars. Way cool. Bill, I pass that park every day going to and from work. It looks nice and shady. In fact when we were thinking we might have to evacuate because of the fires, I thought of parking the trailer there. Thanks a lot, Ellie

Silly ? about leaving TT hitched

I am planning a long trip next summer, staying just one night and moving on until I get there. I have never done this... just gone camping in one place. If I leave the traier hitched with equalizer on, is it advisable to put the stabilizer jacks down? Now for the silliest part: do you you put the tongue jack down or leave it alone? I know how bouncy the trailer is when hitched, but I know I am lazy enough not to want to unhitch for one night at a time. Thanks, Ellie

RE: nitro and pop up?

Thanks all. I just got back from a business trip and am checking in. This will get her started. She does NOT have the tow package but assumes she could get it put together from the dealer. I will send her the information and links. You are the greatest, Ellie

nitro and pop up?

hi, My daughter has a 2007 Dodge Nitro and wants to look into a pop up as a step up from tent camping. I told her that she should make sure how many pounds she can tow and that I knew just the place to find out. I know next to nothing about pop ups as they are today. Can you tell me how much she can tow safely with this vehicle? She would have her husband and two kids, 10 and 11 in the car. Thanks, Ellie

RE: Route from Redding to Yellowstone

Does anyone know if this is a better road than Hwy. 44? Like I said, I haven't been on 44 for awhile, always taking 299 and that one isn't all that easy to me but do-able.

RE: Route from Redding to Yellowstone

Well, I am sure not going to go the longer route to I-80 now. It is amazing what you CAN"T see on a map, isn't it? However, I have you good folks to guide me. I have not traveled 44 in a long time, I usually take 299 to go to Hat Creek. This will be fun. It should take two days, I'm thinking but we have to stop with grandkids just to let them run around. It is nice to hear where You all stop too. Thanks so much, Ellie

RE: Route from Redding to Yellowstone

This is great. Don't laugh at me, but for a little smoother ride and better gas mileage, what do you think about going down I-5 to Woodland and catching I-80? Would that seem too silly given that it is about an hour more than the other route on google maps? It says an hour, but hwy 44 takes a little longer for me with my trailer. I am just thinking aloud here. I actually live in Cottonwood, so that shaves off some of that extra time.... After catching I-80 I would take the route you've suggested. I would probably stop just where you all said, either Elko or Winnamucca, depending on how rowdy the grandkids get, LOL. Ellie

RE: Route from Redding to Yellowstone

Thanks, Harry, it is really smoky today, isn't it? How long does it take for the first, easiest way? By the way, why is the other one not the easiest? Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for. Ellie

Route from Redding to Yellowstone

Can anyone suggest a decent route to Yellowstone from the Redding area (northern Ca.). The best for me would be the least narrow roads though I do travel on them, I want this to be a fun trip. I did search but don't see much from this area to YS. Thank you, Ellie

RE: New Truck Towed Beautifully

EPenney, it is Hat Creek that I went to, a family favorite. The sites are very small and I measured... this truck is 3 ft. longer than the other. I may have to back in and not get the pull thru there. The two pull thrus are wrapped around a couple of trees and are curved. Gee, i am now noticing that a lot of people have this truck. Ellie

RE: New Truck Towed Beautifully

Well, that Jayco 28 or 29 footer looks swell to me! You guys are so funny. Yep, how "sweet" it is... and you are right, I feel very safe and solid with this setup. Now my only concern is the length of the truck and the forest service campgrounds I go to!! Hey, maybe it can back itself into the site too, it is so smart. :B Ellie

New Truck Towed Beautifully

I towed my trailer with my new to me 06 Silverado. It is overkill for the size trailer I have, but I wanted it and sought advice (on price) from the forum . I went to the favorite campground 100 miles from home. The drive is curvy mountain road with several steep grades. I used to go 25mph max up them towing with my 91 GMC. This truck was up to 55mph and could have done more (but I couldn't)... too curvy. On the way down, don't laugh, but the truck seemed to "know" what we needed to do and put itself in the right gear on the 3 mile 6.5% grade. I used to ride the brakes and now I don't need to. I used to pay $170 for gas in the GMC for this trip and this one took $90.00. Gee, I saved $80.00 and only had to spend $23,000 to do it. :B Anyway, thanks to everyone for the encouragement. Ellie

RE: Ladder install on 20' tt?

Thanks for the replies. Having read them, I don't think I will have a ladder installed. I will bring one along, or better yet, figure out how to secure the vu kube!! There seem to be posts on that. Oh, I was going to put the shell on the back of the new truck, but my visibility is so much better, I decided on a tonneau cover. I learned a lot from this post so thanks very much, Ellie

RE: Ladder install on 20' tt?

Sorry I wasn't clear.... I meant carry the chairs on the ladder. They are bulky. Ellie

RE: Ladder install on 20' tt?

Thanks, guys. I'll look into the telescoping ladder. From your replies, I can see calling Jayco is a good idea, but you are probably right on all accounts. Crikey, I still have Old Blue and am having a hard time adjusting to selling her. (For others, Old Blue, is my 1991 GMC that I pulled my trailer with until a week ago. Just bought a new truck) Thanks again, Ellie

Ladder install on 20' tt?

When I bought my Jayco 20BH, I asked about a ladder and the dealer said that the 20' models usually don't have ladders. I would like one put on but does anyone see any problem with having one on a 20' tt? I would like to carry my chairs on it, and put my vu cube on the roof and go up on the roof to clean as well, though for cleaning I can just use a ladder at home. The other things, well, I would like to be able to do these things. What do you think? Why don't they put them on smaller tt's anyway? Ellie

RE: Prodigy installl... level?

Ok, hope I explained it right. The front moves up taking the back down and the front moves down taking the back up. 45 degree angle helps. I did read the manual again and it says it is self leveling. Ellie

RE: Prodigy installl... level?

Thanks a lot. I am going to try it out towing this weekend and was sure I had messed something up. For the grades I drive on, I really want the thing to be functional. One less worry, Thanks, Ellie
